REASON FOR DISMISSALS

(Reed. Jan. 20. 2. p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 19.

The First Lord of the Admiralty, Sir Samuel lloarc, issued a statement in'the House of Commons to-day in reference to tin' recent dismissals of employees from tho Portsmouth dockyards. lie said that cases of subversive activities were reported ill the autumn. They were impartially investigated and as a result, the unanimous conclusion reached was that five men no longer could he, employed. The spirit of the great majority of the. dockyard workers was excellent and cases of disloyalty were' all agether exceptional. Thu Labour leader. Major C. R. Atllee, said that the reply was unsatisfactory. He said ho would raise the matter at the earliest possible moment.
