The Paris correspondent of the Daily Telegraph says it is believed in Paris following the visit of the German Minister, General Goering, to Rome, that Italy and Germany may. make a concerted move to isolate France from her allies in east and central Europe. It is suspected that the anti-Coin-munist crusade is only a cloak for such a manoeuvre, and it is feared that, ’instead of prosecuting her anti-Soviet campaign, Germany will seize the opportunity to obtain a reconciliation with Russia in order to give her freedom of action against less powerful States. The German General Staff and German heavy industry have always regretted the lapsing of the Treaty of Itapallo, which placed vast Soviet resources of raw materials at Germany’s disposal and gave her an important export market.
