ROYAL MOURNING
PASSING OF GEORGE V
ANNIVERSARY OP DEATH
SANDRTNGHAM ASSEMBLY
(Elec. Tel. Copyright —United Press Assn.)
(Reed. Jan. 20, 11.45 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 19
All members of the Eoyal Family, except the Duke of Windsor, will be assembled at Sandringham to-morrow which is the first anniversary of the death of King George Y. Their Majesties the King and Queen and the Princesses, Elizabeth and Margaret Hose, Queen Mary, the Princess Royal, Lord Uarewood and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester are already there, and the Duke and Duchess of Kent will arrive to-day.
It is officially denied that a midnight memorial service is being held at Sandringham.
The King will unveil a memorial to his father at Windsor on Saint George’s Day, April 23.
The denial that a midnight service would be held at Sandringham was issued in reference to an earlier report stating it was believed that a private memorial service was being arranged, to which members of the Eoyal Family would walk in the darkness soon after 11 p.m. The service would thus be in progress at the time of the King's death. It was at 9.35 p.m. when the bulletin: “The King’s life is moving peacefully towards its close,” was issued, and midnight when the further bulletin announced that death had come peacefully at 11.35 p.m. Apart from members of the Royal Family, only a few old estate servants who worked for King George would attend the service. There would be no choir and no music.
