COOK COUNTY COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING PROPOSED STOCK ROUTE The Cook County Council met to-day, those present being Crs. Clias. Matthews, chairman, J. Tombleson, F. Bowen, F. A. Shanks, E. H. Baker, M. T. B. Hall. J. C. N. Thomas and M. L. Holden.

Mr. George Burrows wrote asking foi a refund of a sanitary rate which lie claimed was paid in error.—A refund was authorised provided the auditor would approve. Mr. R. \Y. Coop applied for permission to erect a cattle stop at his front gate at Muriwai.—The request was granted under the usual conditions. Mrs. 11. M. Hay wrote asking the council to answer the following questions so lliai the replies might be reported in the press:—Why was the old Potuiwa road closed through Turehau and not through any other property? Is it possible to open a stock route on the line that 1 suggest? Did the whole of the council agree with Mr. W. G. Sherratt’s state meat regarding 'mileage, seeing that they raised no objection?—The chairman : As this matter has been thrashed out at several meetings, I move that tin letter be received. The motion was seconded by Or. J. C. N. Thomas and car ried.

Messrs. Chrisp and Chrisp wrote on behalf of Mr. R. W. Coop, pointing out that one of Air. Coop’s bridges war in danger bv Hood waters and his pro pevty was also in danger of Hooding ai a result of the operations of the Mini wai Drainage Board.—Cr. Bowen sail that this was the highest bridge on tin drain, and if his were reconstructed all others on the drain w-ould have ulie rebuilt too. The matter was referred to the drainage committee. The county ranger, Air. E. A. Cameron, reported that during the month ended Jauary 16, 348 head of stock* were seized for impounding, including one lot of 200 sheep.
