Defence against, gas attack and Hie part played by the pharmaceutical chemist was fully discussed at the biennial meeting of the Australasian Pharmaceutical Conference, in Auckland. .Military authorities in Australia were concerned with gas. defence only as far as it related to the army, according to reports presented by delegates, and public education was being left to civilian services. Pharmaceutical representatives in Australia had been actively engaged Hi investigating protective measures-
The assistance of chemists was already recognised bv civilian gas defence bodies in New South Wales, it was stated, and similar co-opera was indicated in Victoria. The Mow Zealand representative slated that anti-gas ideas had not been prevalent- in Ihe Dominion, bid interesl was being taken in any action taken in Australia.
Various aspects of gas defence were discussed by Air. IL. Fimiomore. ol Sydney Bniversity. and chairman of the decontaminating anti-gas committee operating m Sydney, lie also mentioned possible lines of work in which chemists could collaborate with other civic services alter being specially trained for the purpose, A sub-committoe was set up to consider participation in anti-gas measures.
