NELSON £70,000 LOAN

RATEPAYERS APPROVE ELECTRIC POWER SCHEME ... (Per Press Association.) NELSON, this day. The Nelson-Waimea Power Board’s Waimea area carried, by 675 votes to 173, the board’s proposal for a loan of £70,000 for developing hydro-electric power from the Hume (Cobb River) Hydro-Electric Company’s scheme. The company is erecting its standby plant first to assist the city and district to meet the immediate shortage and build up the load in order that larger purchases of power may be made when the main hydro-electric works are completed. It is expected that the work will be finished within two years.
