TE ACHE R, PARE WELLED (Herald Correspondent.) On Tuesday Mr. 0. T. Calvert, of the Tolaga Bay District High School, was fnrewellcd by the High School pupils. Peter Moore, on behalf of the secondary pupils, expressed deep regret at Mr. Calvert’s departure and keen appreciation of his unfailing sympathy and attention. Mr. Calvert’s resignation would leave a great gap, which would lie difficult In fill, not only at. school, hut amongst I lie numerous sports bodies in Tolaga Bay. He then called on Melva Norris, who congratulated Mr. Gal vert- on his promotion and wished him every success in his new work. On behalf of the senior pupils, site presented Mr. Calvert with a chromium shaving set and a smoker hi outfit. Later in the day, Mr. Curry expressed his sincere regret at the loss of such a valued and appreciated member of the staff. The staff wished Mr. Calvert every success in his new position, and would look forward to his help and sympathy in the future. Mr. Curry asked Mr. Calvert to accept a small token of their esteem. To each of these speakers Mr. Calvert suitably replied, expressing his regret at leaving Tolaga Bay. a. place with' so many happy associations. He Would waleh with keen interest, the progress of the school. The secondary pupils presented Moreen Sayers with a nicely hound writing compendium cm tho occasion of her departure to a position in Gisborne. The medal for dux of ihc school was won by Nora Hale. Brian Day being second. EL AG FIVE-HUNDRED There were six tables at the weekly flag live-hundred evening held by the. Tolaga Bay Women's Institute in t.bn Reynolds’ Hall on Tuesday night. Mr. Powell reminded the players that next Tuesday would he the last, of the card evenings before Christinas. At the conclusion of the games a dainty supper was served. The prize-winners for the evening were: —Ladies, most clips: Sister Lipsitt. Gentlemen, most, clips: Mr. GeorgeWinning table, most flags: Mrs. G. \V. King, Miss P. Laing, Mr. G. A. Moore and Mr. A. S. Martin. Travelling envelopes : Air. T. Atkins and Mr. Gilder. MrS. Holder, sen., won an additional prize Ijor the ladies and Mr. J. Lincoln for the gentlemen. Miss J. Thornton has returned to Tolaga Bay and is spending Hie holidays With her parents.—Missi Doris Barton and her brother, Mr. Max Barton, were the guests of Mrs. 0. B. Bartrnm last week-end.
