EDINBURG] I OFFER LONDON, Oct. 28. Mr. George Lansbury, former Parliamentary leader of the Labour Forty, lias been asked by a- body of Edinburgh students if lie would he prepared to stand as a .candidate "in ■the eleeliyn of a Lord Rector of Edinburgh University in succession to Lord Allenhy. who died soon alter his installation early this year. Mr. Lansbury, was approached when lie was io Edinburgh tor the Labour Party conference. He stated lie would consider the question. Nominations in the election have to be made early liext month. So far only two other liames have been suggested—those of Dr. Chalmers Watson and Mr. CL M. Grieve, the Scottish author and poet. Dr. Watson has previously contested the election. There is an agreement that the election this year shall not be conducted on political ’ lines, and-consequently the. Socialists as a political party are not supposed to give their official support to one candidate or another..
