INTEREST IN MAORI ART

Members of the teaching staff of the Nuhaka Native School and a party of the children journeyed to Waihirere Hall, Wairoa, on Friday evening, to observe the tukutllku panels being prepared for the Carroll Memorial Hall. By tho courtesy of Mr. Bevnn. Otaki, and his stall, the children were given individual tuition, and permitted to work on some of tlie panels. The children displayed keen interest ill learning this fine Maori art, and made a number of drawings of the designs.

Mr. F. T. Woodley. headmaster of the Nuhaka Native School, thanked Mr. Hevan and his staff, on behalf of the teachers and children, for the splendid opportunity afforded them.

The weather has been exceptionally dry in Nuhaka this month and up to Saturday only 1.20 in. of rain had fallen. Mr. and Mrs. F.. Way, Tokomaru Bay, accompanied by Miss Redin, Palmerston North, broke their journey at Nuhaka on their way south.—Mrs. 11. Steed, jun., and son have returned to Nuhaka.—Mr. C. McKay. Wairoa, is spending a hoi) day in Nuhaka as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. T. McKee.
