Air. ll.oherl Tapper and a number of his brothers took up farming. An active interest was taken by Air. Robert Tapper in the development of the district, serving tor a number of years as a member of the Wallace County Council and as a J.E. lie was also one of the original promoters ol the ( lilden Racing Club and besides owning a number of horses rode them as an amateur rider. Silver trophies at his home testified lo his success in this branch of sport, lie was also a keen bowler.

On retiring from farming, Mr. Tapper resided in Dunedin for a time, but when his Iwo sons, Messrs. Robert and .lack 'Dipper, returned from the Great War, the former badly gassed, he decided to come north with them and eventually settled in Wairoa. where he purchased Tapni station and placed his sons on it. For a time he resided in Wairoa and later went to live nearer his sons at IVrapaliki. A keen student of Nature, especially with regard to the habits of wild fowl, he made many interesting contributions to newspapers. Mr. Tapper was a great admirer of the beauties of Waikareinoatia and never lost an opportunity ol boosting it with his pen. Ilis frank and cheerful nature endeared him to those who had the privilege of his friendship, and the sympathy of friends in Wairoa and .Southland will be extended to his widow, family and relatives in their bereavement.

Besides his widow, the deceased leaves two sons. .Messrs. Robert and Jack Tapper, and six brothers, Mr. George Tapper. Jersey. Messrs. Alfred, Jules ami (lustaviis Tapper, Invercargill, Mr. Finest Tapp, r. Clyde. Otago, and one sister. Mrs. ,1. Rage. Auckland. A son, Mr. llarrv Tapper, lost his life at Waikaremoana a lew years ago as I lie result of a launch accident. The interment took place this afternoon at Wairoa cemetery.
