MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE PALMERSTON S. TRAGEDY (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. A sentence of gaol for two years with hard labour was the sentence imposed today on Richard Corrigan, aged ol years, on the charge of manslaughter of George Stuart Neisli at Palmerston South on August 26. In passing sentence, Mr. Justice Kennedy said lu> took into account the fact that the prisoner had liquor, and that the crime would not probably have been committed had not the deceased and a companion gone to the prisoner’s home with liquor, the l crime being a sequel to a more or less drunken struggle. At the same time, the prisoner had cowardly kicked the deceased when down. The judge said he had adopted the jury’s strong recommendation to mercy.
