REDUCTION OF HOURS
MENTAL HOSPITAL STAFFS NEW SCHEME IN FORCE (Parliamentnry Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. A suggestion, that mental hospital warders are working over 70 hours a week is denied by the lion. P. Fraser, Minister of Health, who, replying to Mr. C. A. Wilkinson (Nat,.,, Egmont) states that these officers work 41hrs. 46mins. a week. The system, which came into force on October 1, which is working with perfect smoothness, provides that the staff shall commence duty each day at 7 a.rn. and go off duty alternate nights at' 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Provision is made for every third day off duty, and also for a month off at the end of each period of five months. An extra shift lias been provided from 10.45 a.rn. until 10 p.m. each day. Letters of appreciation of the grenl reduction of hours of work and thanks to the Government for granting the reduction ,hav© beep received from the staffs of the hospitals.
