RENEWAL OF TENSION
JAPANESE IN SHANGHAI ERECTION OF BARRICADES (Klec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Oct. 2, noon) SHANGHAI, Oct. 1. A renewal of the tension in the SinoJapanese situation arose to-day when Japanese marines erected barbed-wire barricades in Hongkew, their quarters at the Shanghai International Settlement. They also seized strategic points. There has been a general exodus of Chinese from the district. Meanwhile, the SinoJapanese negotiations at Nanking are continuing.
