The driver of a motor vehicle that one night lasi duly injured a girl on the, Wa irna • Frasertown road was lined by Mr. K. L. Walton. S.M.. in tDo Wairna Police Gomi vesteidav.
Joe llapi was proceeded against for having on July 51. at Wanna, driven a motor vehicle negligently on the WairoaFraserlown road. Sergeant Clark said the rase wax not. one .a the usual hit and run class. The accused was a well-known and icspect,a hie man, working for lho Waivoa Cminlx Council, but on duly o! he had taken too much liquor, and it, had had the effect of making him careless. He stopped at. a garage to see if his lights were all right and went on to Frnsevfown fin the dark. lie, caught up ,n two girls going! home, one wheeling a bicycle, and bilking-to another bv the side of the load. The accused’,s vehicle struck one of the girls, who suffered a broken legs- The accused went on, hut the injured girl was assisted by her friend and a mail named Cooper.
The police, added Sergeant Clark, saw llapi later and he admitted he knew he bait hit something, but that he got frirhtened and wen! on. The sergeant submitted t hat it Ihe accused had kept, a proper look-out he need not have struck the gill.

On a charge of so using a motor vehicle that he caused an accident, and failed to stop, accused was lined £5. and costs 15s. the magistrate staling that he should see to his lights or he might lose his license. Time was allowed in which to pay the fines.
