CRICKET ADMINISTRATION

P.B. ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING GOOD SEASON IN PROSPECT The annual meeting of the Poverty Pay Cricket; Association was held at the Cosmopolitan Club last evening under favourable auspices lor the forthcoming season. Tho aitendance was large and the prospects for l he new season were discussed in a spirit of pronounced optimism. The chair was occupied by' Mr. A’. C. R. Milford, president of the association, who expressed pleasure that there were so many present. An apology for absence was received from Mr. If. F. Forster. The balance-sheet and statement of accounts were presented by Mr. 11. Id. Maude, who outlined in detail iho association’s financial posit ion. lie considered that much of the expenditure during lire past year was of a nonrecurring nature. The speaker concluded by appealing to tin- members to support their association and l hereby assist the game of cricket. On the motion of Mr. F. W. Nolan, seconded by Mr. .1. W. Blalhwnyt, the annual report, already published in the Herald, and I lie balance-sheet were adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted: —President, Alr. Y. C. ’ R. Mitford; vice-presidents, Messrs. H. B. Williams, 0. Lord, D. J. Barry, F. W. Nolatt, and H. F. Forster; lion, secretary, Mr. J. AI. Kay; hon. treasurer, Mr. G. Tat.tcr.sall; hon. auditor, Mr. C. 0. Hansen; management committee, Messrs. V. Gnulton, D. Wtdls, W. Stewart, A. Bignell, F. C. Bennett, J. ,T. Macdonald and G. N. Lockett; junior clubs’ representative on the executive, Air. E. Bilhnm, On the'motion of Air. Maude, a recommendation was passed to the incoming committee that :t letter of appreciation lie sent to Mr. .1. (I. A. MacGregor for his services to the club. AH. Maude explained that Air’. MacGregor was unable to continue in the position of vice-president.

The almost entire absence of support from cricketers during the recent festival of sport was referred to by Air. Y. C. R. Aiitford, who thought that the good work of Messrs. .1. Ora w ford- . Smith. Boon and Stewart should not go unnoticed. Great assistance had been received from tennis supporters also, and Mr. Milford moved that votes of thanks be passed to .Mesdatnes M. K. Boon, W. Neale and Y. Harper, Messrs, A. Shetland, E. Woodrow. .). Crawford- • Smith, AT. K. Boon and W. Stewarl. The motion was carried. It was decided, on the motion of Air. IT. E. Maude,' that the £27 10s received by the association as a result of the festival of sport should be handed over to the board controlling the Oval, with a recommendation that the money should be used first for the overhauling of the grandstand and and other improvements to the grounds. The association had been given to understand that, the Poverty Bay Rugby Union was taking a similar action. AIILLER TRUST FUND AH;, R. Connop asked if there was any possibility of third grade players receiving assistance from the Miller Trust Fund. Mr. Nolan replied that the fund had been exhausted about IS months ago, but there was a likelihood of il being rejuvenated in the future. Ari appeal to cricketers to attend the official opening of the season and to bring a friend with them was made by Mr. A. Higindl. A discussion took place over unpaid guarantees incurred by the clubs at the time of’ the visit to Gisborne of the AI.C.C. touring team. A number of club representatives disclaimed any' knowledge of tho liability. Mr. R. Connop suggested flint the association should make a levy of Is per 1 member, but it was pointed out by Air. E. Gilliam that a club with four or perhaps five teams would be unfairly penalised, whereas the guarantee was £2 per club. The matter was left to the incoming executive.

The meeting concluded with votes of thanks to the Cosmopolitan Club for the ti.se of the rooms and to the chair.
