SHORTAGE OF DOMESTICS
AN ACUTE PROBLEM TRAINING PROPOSED (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Inst, night, Tn the House to-day, .Mr. T. D. Burnett (Nat., Temuka) asked the Minister of Labour whether lie was aware of the gravity of the domestic service problem, whereby thousands of mothers of young children are in desperate straits owing to an acute shortage of adequate and efficient house help, and whether he will consider a system of apprenticing girls leaving school to housewives of reputation and standing, and, in short, make domestic service as attractive and popular as that of denial nurses.
Tho Hon. H. T. Armstrong, in a written answer, replied that the Government is fully aware of the gravity of the problem. The question of providing increased facilities for tho training oi' domestic servants and for mailing the work more attractive is already' receiving attention by the Government.
