ROTORUA CONFERENCE COMMENCEMENT TO-DAY The interest aroused by the recent conference of Maori leaders convened by the Government- in Wellington is reflected in the support, accorded the organisers of (lie conference to be opened at Ohinomutn, Rotorua, to-day. 'lhis gathering is to establish a national council to deal with native problems as a- co-ordinating body between the various Maori organisation's and the Government.' Special invitations have been extended to prominent. Europeans known to be keenly interested in the progress

of the Maoris. Following the addresses of welcome by the elders of the Arawn tribe and the opening address by the Mayor of Rotorua, Mr. T. -Jackson, it is proposed thatdelegates should be given the opportunity of making a personal inspection of the [forohoro native development scheme. The serious business of the conference will commence this afternoon and there will probably be an evening session. It is expected that the gathering will conclude to-morrow afternoon, leaving the evening free for native entertainments and enabling tho delegates to return to their homes bv the week-end.
