REVENUE IN BRITAIN
RISE FOR QUARTER TRADE GROWTH INDICATED (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 1.15 p.m. RUGBY, Sept. 10. The total ordinary revenue in the United Kingdom in the quarter ended to-day exceeded the figure for the corresponding period of last year by £5,1*1 8,0(15, and amounted to £161.462.05! K This is one of the interesting facts revealed by the exchequer returns for the second quarter and the first half ol the financial year. The recovery revenue in the second quarter was insufficient fully to offset the slower returns in the earlier part of the year, and the total ordinary revenue to date is £LS!i7,24t less than at the same date last Year. It stands at £285,002,715. The income tax returns show a decrease of .just over £6,000,000, compared with a year ago. and the yield of estate duties is £4,510,000 less. Customs, however, stand £6,667,000 above the figures of a year ago, and at £104,106,000 reflect the growth of overseas trade during the six months. ’Flic excise corresponds exactly with the total of a year ago of £51,000,000. The total ordinary expenditure to date is £165,11)5,005, compared with £346,347,07!) a year .ago. ’flic increase was almost entirely in respect of tho army, navy .and air force votes. The total outstanding floating debt of £861,455,000 is £S 1,285,000 more than at the end of the last financial year, hut compares with £014.120,000 at the corresponding date of 1015.
