FUTURE OF SELASSIE
ABDICATION SUGGESTION PROMPT DENIAL GIVEN SACRIFICE FOR PEOPLE (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Oct. 1. noon) LONDON, Sept. 30. Quick wits at Geneva scented a hint of the Emperor’s abdication in a speech of the Abyssinian delegate at the Assembly. The delegate said that, to save human lives and maintain an independent home for his people, the Emperor must now regard himself as bound to consent to n sacrifice of his rights guaranteed under the covenant. The Abyssinian Legation in London promptly denied that the Emperor had any intention of abdicating. It later amplified the announcement to the effect that the Emperor, while never giving up his sovereignty, was always willing to make sacrifices for the purpose of accord with Italy. A message from Rome states that any idea of Haile Selassie bargaining with 11:i 1 v for the retention of a part of his former unoccupied territory is dismissed as ridiculous.
