LONG CIVIL LIST MOTOR VEHICLE OFFENCES (Herald Correspondent.) The following cases were dealt with by .Mr. E. 1.. Walton, S.M.. in the NVairoa Magistrate’s Court yesterday : f'iim Smith, aged 20. was charged with having, on or about July 29. stolen a Lady's bicycle, valued at £5. the property of May I‘otatau. The aceusod pleaded guilty. Sergeant Clark stated that the accused had an old bicycle, and seeing this one. he took it. and alter removing parts to make his own good he threw the rest into a swamp. Accused was fined 05. with costs ss. time being allowed in which to pay. Robert NYallaec was charged that at the Wlmkaki Hall on August- 1 he behaved in a disorderly manner during the course of a dance. Constable Huston stated that accused caused trouble with the Maoris, and after hitting one of them had to be put out. I.ater ho admitted the offence. Accused was fined £2. with costs 10s. Clarence Vincent Cooper, for having on -September 12 at Putorino used a motor ear on the Napier-Wairoa road without having the assigned number plates, was fined £l, and costs- 10s. On a charge of driving without a. license lie was lined ss. with costs 16s.
Jim Hira, charged with having ridden at Mohaka a, motor-cycle without holding a driver’s license, was lined 15s and costs 21s. NO DRIVER’S LICENSE
Thomas Ha-pi Smith pleaded guilty to having driven a motor ear on the Wairoa-Nuhaka road at Tahanui on August 31 without being the holder of a driver’s license. Sergeant Clark stated that the defendant borrowed a car and met with an accident. On the matter being investigated it was found that lie had no license. Accused, for whom Mr. G. M. O’Malley appeared, was fined 5s and costs 15s.
Jimmy Tahi, who had a long list against him, was fined £1 and costs 15s for a breach of his prohibition order, time being granted in which to pay. W. Moody and Harold Payne were jointly charged on two counts with having (1) on August 11 in the Kahungunu proclaimed area, supplied beer for consumption off the premises to William Wilson and five other natives, and (2) supplying beer to Maggie Kaimoana- and seven other native girls. Both accused pleaded guilty. Sergeant Clark said the accused got up a, party and secuied some beer, and as a result of attempted “gate-crashing” a fight resulted, the police being called. Moody pleaded that they hadl only half a gallon of beer altogether. His Worship said the Legislature looked on this in a, serious- light, especially supplying Maori women. Each accused was fined £1 on the first charge, with costs 10s, and on the second £5 each, with costs 10s.
Reginald William Hawthorne, comity traffic inspector, proceeded against the following :• NVilliam Desmond Adnnms, for 'dangerous driving, was fined £3. and costs 10s. Walter Beattie, for using on the Ruarakaiputnra road a motor-cycle that did not hear the required distinguishing number, was fined £1 and costs 15s. Bernard George Hayden, for using a track that did not carry a third party risk, was fined £2 and costs 10s. Pitiera Kopu Hawaikangi. for using a motor truck without possessing a. driver's license, was fined £1 and costs 15s. On a second charge of having no assigned number on the vehicle he was fined 5s and costs 10s.
