R.A.F. DISPLAY

RUSSIAN IMPRESSED

“REMARKABLE SKILL”

MOSCOW, July S

Pilot Gromof, Russian holder of the world’s distance record for a ilight in a closed circuit, has returned to Moscow strongly impressed with the recent R.A.F. air pageant at Hendon. “The pilot’s technique was high, and they all know their planes extremely well,” lie states. “Three who did stunts with planes tied together with ribbons were, remarkably skilful. “The conservative British Air Forco is now changing over from the biplane to tho monoplane in all branches of air work. All new planes combine great air-speed with easy manoeuvring and low landing speed.” Gromof criticises the British Ail* Force for not letting their men make parachute jumps at. Hendon “owing to bail weather.”

“By our Russian standards,” Gromof affirms, “tho weather was quite favourable. In Moscow we even let learners jump under such conditions.” Perhaps the best answer to this is the recent official admission that seven parachute jumpers were killed here in the first three months of this year.
