MEDICAL ASSOCIATION Tlie Wharerata, Medical Association is now in operation and embraces all employees of_ tlie. Public. Works Department on tna Gisborne-Wharerata. section of the Last Coast Main Trunk railway, together with tho men employed on the Gisborne. and Wharerata sections of the GisbornoWairoa, via Morere, main highway. Tho association functions as from September 1, 1836, and levies will bo deducted at the end of each month, tho first levy being due from the pay consequent on tho measure upon September 30. The amount, of the monthly levy will be 4s 4d. or in the case of men starting or finishing work during the month, at the rate of 1? per Week ior fraction of a week.

On Saturday evening Mr. D. A. Morton gave a very interesting talk on a typical journey of a J\ ; ew Zealand troopship, describing the life <xn board and the places at which they called, the trip being illustrated with lantern slides. He finished the evening by giving those present his experiences of camp life at Sling, and showed, pictures, of Ihe surrounding country and places of interest. On Sunday evening Captain Sutcliffe gave his last, address to a fair'attendance in the Y.M.C.A., and showed them some beautiftil pictures on the screen. lie left Bartlctt's on Monday afternoon. The boys and girls' clubs had a combined function on Monday evening, there being 42 girls and boys present. .Mis. F. Mulligan, their captain, was ably assisted by Mrs. .). French, Mrs. W. L. Bell, the Misses J. and I']. French, and Miss C Mulligan. The evening was spent in gaancs and dancing, which proved a great success. At, a committee meeting of flic R.S.A. sub-association of Bartlctt's on Monday evening, it, was deicided to hold a smoke concert on October 9 in thc'woolshed at To Kopua. which has been loaned by I Mr. Hewson, jnpnagcr of the station.
