VERDICT AGAINST PRIEST SEQUEL TO COLLISION MELBOURNE, ■ Sept. 21. By a reserved judgment delivered by the'Chief Justice, Sir Frederick Mann, Joseph Clarence Vosti, of St. Augustine's Presbytery, Wodonga, a priest of the Roman Catholic Church, must pay .damages amounting to £ISOO and costs to the driver of a motor car with which his own car collided on the Hume Highway, near Glenrowan, on October 27, 1933. Tho Chief Justice held that Vosti had caused tho collision by his negligence in driving on the wrong side of the road and in delaying too long before pulling over towards hi.s proper side.

The plaintif was Bertram John Westley Corr, of Camberwell, estate agent, who had brought an action claiming £2OOO damages from Vosti. He alleged that Vosti had, been negligent in the cointrol • and management of his car, and that his negligence had been caused by his having taken intoxicating liquor.

Tho formal defence was a denial of negligence and an allegation of contributory negligence on the part of the plaintiff, against whom the defendant brought a counter-claim for £l5O.

Defendant denied that ho had taken any liquor, either before or during his journey from Melbourne to Glenrowan.

The Chief Justice entered judgment for the plaintiff for £.lfioo, with costs on the claim.
