Wedding Bells
Loage-.tsalc.ombe At . St. Andrew's Church, Cobdeii street last .Thursday afternoon, the marriage was solemnised between .Joan Vere, oniy daughter of Air. and Mrs.. >i. L. uiabornu, anu lUervyn Clauue, elder son of the late Mr. C. Lodge, AuCKlund, and of Mrs. Lodge, Wellington. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her lather, looked lovely in a gown of parchment neeulerun lace over satin. Tne bodice was made with a V iiecK. Hmshed with a spray of orange ulossom, full puff sleeves to the elbow and tightly fitting to wrist, linisning with a point over the hands and tiny satin buttons. The graceful skirt was slim tittingj to knees, flaring in soft folds and linisning with point needlerim insertion. A coronet of orange blossom was worn with a. hand eirjuyoidered veil falling gracefully to (he bottom of the skirt. A beautiful sheaf of lilies was carried, makiii" the perfect complement to the simplicity of the gown. Tile bride was attended by Mrs. Norma Moir as matron of honour, wearing a graceful apricot floral frock, the skirt being slim fitting! to the knees, and the gores"being finished with waterfall frills." The bodice was softly rucked at the neclc, with elbow-length cape sleeves. Gold sandals and hose with pretty bandeau of velvet flowers and leaves to tone were worn, and a lovely bouquet in art shades of Iceland poppies, narcissi and i fern was carried.
The bridegroom was attended by Mr W. A. Jacobsen as best man.
After the ceremony at the home of the bride's parents the usual toasts were honoured and afternoon tea dispensed. Mrs. Balcomb received her guests in :i smart navy blue charmese frock, with hat to tone and carrying a bouquet of scarlet anemones and camellias. A number of handsome and useful presents were displayed. .Later in the afternoon the young bride and bridegroom, amid happy farewells and confetti, left by car for Rotorua and Auckland, where the honeymoon is being spent. St. Andrew's ' Presbyterian Church, C'obden street, was the scene of a very pretty wedding last Wednesday evening, when' Doris lsa, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Lanigan, Taruheru, was married to Thomas" Clague, Lyndhurst street, Oisbonie. The church had been beautifully decorated by friends of the bride. The ceremony was conducted by the Rev. A. J. 11. Dow.
The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, looked charming in her wedding gown of white georgette, cut. on slender lines to the knees, gathered panels being let in the flared skirt; tiny satin buttons adorned the back of bodice and sleeves. The beautiful white wedding veil was held in place hy a halo of orange blossom, and she carried a beautiful bouquet of white roses and maidenhair fern.
Her two bridesmaids, Miss Gladys Bissenden, chief, cousin of the bride, and Miss Noeline Jennings, - looked charming in their frocks of salmon pink georgette, cut on slender lines to the knees, where the skirt formed a gathered frill. The shoulders and bodice were ornamented with smocking, from which fell a pleated cape, held in place with a. spray of pink flowers. The waistline was finished with a silver girdle, and they wore Dolly Varden hats of georgette and silver sequins. Their beautiful bouquets were of pink roses. Each received chromium bracelets as gifts from the bridegroom. The little flower girl, Miss Audrey Wilkinson, step-sister of the bridegroom, looked sweet, in a frock of. white windswept satin. The waistline was finished with a silver girdle, and tiny silver bows adorned the bottom of the skirt. She wore a coronet of white and silver flowers, and carried a posy of pink roses. Tlie duties of best man were capably carried out by Mr. W. Johnson, and those of groomsman by Mr. P. Lanigan, brother of the bride. After the ceremony a reception was held at Le Grande"Cafe, where Mrs. W. Lanigan, wearing a smart dress of blue figured silk, worn with a blue straw hat to match, and Mrs. Wilkinson, wearing a frock of figured mar oca in in navy blue touings and a navy blue hat to match, welcomed the guests. The aunt of the bride, Mrs. Bissenden, wore a smart tunic ensemble of blue marocain, worn with hat to match. A delicious breakfast was served from tables decorated with Iceland poppies and freesias, pride of place being given to the beautiful two-tier white and silver wedding cake. Mr. TI. McKnight acted as M.C., and the customary toasts were honoured. Later the guests were entertained at a dance, the music being supplied by Mrs. Aicken. The happy couple left later on their honeymoon, Che bride travelling in a smart costume of green and white flecked tweed, worn with a green straw hat to match. They were the recipients of many beautiful and useful gifts.
