PIRATING TO BE CHECKED DECISION OF MAGISTRATE \ Stating that lie was determined to check the operation of pirate transport operators who were affecting detrinicn tally the licensed services, Mr. S. B. Paterson, S.M., in the Rotorua Magistrate’s Court imposed heavy deterrent penalties upon Francis Frederick llowe. of Rotorua, and Kadar Mia. of Monrea. Evidence was given by a main highways traffic inspector, Mr. D. M. Jtoni, that Rowe had been in the habit oi running a ear from the ilorolioro native settlement shortly 'before the licensed bus service. Rowe had already been fined £5 for carrying on an unlicensed service over this route, and when stopped again on September 5 he had eight passengers in his vehicle. . The magistrate imposed a line of £lO, a ,„l said that if defendant appeared again on a similar charge he would he fined the maximum of £SO.
