FACTORY TO RETAILER CASH TRADING BASIS (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Certain dairy factories supplying the Wellington market- have decided to make supplies’ available to retailers direct at the same price as that charged to distributors. Under this arrangement, which came into operation yesterday, butter from these factories will be available at the factories’ depot in Wellington at 12J,d per 11>.,■ in pats, plus a servicing charge of 4J>d a box. The factories concerned arc situated in Die main in (lie Manawatu, Hawke’s Bay and Wairarapa districts. A condition of sale to the retailer is that the transaction must he for cash. It is pointed out that the new arrangement is likely to have a serious effect on the business of (lie distributors who previously handled the butter from the factories concerned, but on the other hand the -retailers may pro-’ fer to retain -their connections with the wholesale houses in order that they might continue to operate on a credit basis'. The Wellington Master Grocers’ Association announced yesterday that it had been advised by the distributors that the wholesale price for butter had-been reduced to Is Id per lb., delivered. The new retail prices would be: First grade, Is 2d per lb. ; superfine, Is per lb.; both cash o ,r er the counter, and up to Is 3d per lb., booked or delivered.
