SUGAR-BEET INDUSTRY
EXPERIMENTS PLANNED In order to provide data as a guide to the possibilities of establishing a .sugarbeet industry in Taranaki, experiments in growing sugar-beet are to he undertaken by South Taranaki boys and girls’ agricultural clubs this year. The yield and sugar content of the beet grown in different areas will be ascertained. Mr. It. Byrne, agricultural instructor, said that ICO plots .scattered over South'Taranaki would provide valuable information for the Government, which was conducting trials to ascertain the value of beet for sugar in New Zealand.
