SPRING FLOWER SHOW

There was a fair attendance ■at the spring flower show held under the auspices of St. -Mary’s Ladies’ Guild in -Matawai on Saturday. There were fewer flowers than last year, but a good display of bulbs. Of the stalls, the produce stall, in charge of Mrs. Fleming, was the most patronised. Awards were as follow :

Flower section (.Mrs. J. Hutchinson, judge).—Collection of bulbs,: Mrs. F. Sinton. 1; Mrs. C. G. Fielder, 2; Mrs. R. Moughtou. 3. Collection of shrubs: -Miss McLean. 1 ; Mrs. A. K. Gibson, 2; Mrs. 11. Burgess, 3. Collection of polyanthus and primroses: Mrs. .7. IT. Oriant, 1 : Mrs. C. G. Fielder, 2; Mrs. A. E. Gibson. 3. Six varieties of flowers from one garden : Mrs. Millar. 1; Mrs. A. E. Gibson. 2. Anemones: Mrs. Millar, 1; Mrs. A. E. Gibson, 2. Decorative., bowl of flower:;: Miss 0. A. Rulst. 1; Mrs. C. \. Smith. 2: Mrs. It. Moughtou. 3. Cooking (Mrs. F. Read, judge). —It utter scones: Mrs C. A. Smith, 1 ; Mrs. R. Fleming. 2: Mrs. F. Sinton, 3. Rutter sponge: Mrs. R. R. Rail'd, 1 ; Mrs. R. McDonald. 2- . Miss Morrison, 3. Pikelets: Miss Morrison, 1; Mrs. R. B. Baird. 2: Mrs.' 0. G. Fielder, 3. Shortbread: Miss Morrison, 1: Mrs. F. Korte, 2: Miss M. Korte. 3. Small cakes: Miss Morrison. 1: Mrs. F. Sinton, 2. Puffpastry : Mrs. 0. G. Fielder, 1 and 2. .Afternoon tea and lunch were provided, •md dips in the bran tubs kept the children amused. Trophies were awarded to the winners of.each class; and specials for most points in the flower section and in the cooking section were won by Airs. Gibson and Miss Morrison respectively. Mr. A. Pritchard lias sold his garage and plant to Mr. R. Bell, formerly of Te Ivaraka. There was a fair attendance at the monthly service held at St. -Mary s Church”, Matawai, on Sunday. The Rev. J. D. Hodgson took text, Acts, chapter 13.. verses 14, 15, 16, and in the course of his sermon, gave a short resume of the salient features of the Oxford Group Movement.
