TWENTY-ONE KNOTS
TASMAN CROSSING
TRIP BY AWATEA
(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, .this, day
After experiencing a gale last night coming down the New Zealand const, the Awatea arrived to schedule time this morning, easily making up the extra half-hour of summer time.
Captain Davey said the ship behaved wonderfully and averaged 21 knots until the last, four hours of the trip, when the speed was reduced to 17 knots in order not, to arrive in port ahead of the schedule. The vessel berthed without assistance. She was flying the To.igau Standard, in deference to Queen Salole Tubou and Prince Tugi, Ihe Prince Consort and Prime Minister. Mr. X. S. Falla, the managingdirector of the Union Steam Ship Company, who has been on a business visit to Australia, said the new ship had been enthusiastically received in Sydney.
