GUIDE MEETING (HoraUl Correspondent.) A small lini enthusiastic meeting of the cojinnin.ee of tlie Muriwui braneh ,of the Girl Guides was held on Thursday. Mrs. Carlton Williams presided over the meeting, which was called to arrange for ihc Guide birthday party. The decision to have tlio ftljic.iion in Mis. Faulkner's reserve was arrived at after some discussion. This spot is an ideal one for the purpose. The party will take place on October 7, and will be in the form of a picnic. A small play is to lie presented, ami some enrolments are io In- made. Catering arrangements for the afternoon were completed, and it was decided to ask Mrs. A. .!•'.'■ McDonald, the commissioner. Gisborne, to attend the function.

During the week-end cricketing enthusiasts devoted some lime to the preparation of the playing held used for the .Mnriwai matches. The .outfield was cleared of thistles and the pitch, which is reported to be in good order lor this period of the year, was scythed and mown. The held should be in good condition ami ready for play for the .opening match, at Ihe beginning of next month. Mr. and Mrs. L.
