LITTLE ENTENTE

ITALY'S ANXIETY

CONFERENCE CALLED

LONDON, Sept.. 17. Signor Mussolini's decision to call a meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Italy, Austria and Hungary, at Vienna, which is officially announced, is regarded as a reply to the conference of tho Foreign Ministers of the Little Entente at Bratislava last week. The decisions of that conference are considered too important to pass unchallenged. Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, an" Rumania (whioh compose the Little Entente) in effect resolved upon tighter unity in order, to defend the independence they gained in the war. They decided to reorganise their arrangements for military co-operation, to accelerate the mechanisation of their armies, to establish, reserve petrol supplies for tlie Yugoslavian army from the Rumanian oil wells, and also, if possible, to oDtain credits from Paris and perhaps London. The Rome correspondent of the Daily Telegraph says: "These plans in themselves are enough to account for the rival meeting at Vienna. The rearmament of Hungary, which the Little Entente has agreed to oppose, has become a burning question for the signatories of the Rome protocols." The Daily Telegraph's Berlin correspondent says: "The Bratislava conference is considered to have openly threatened Germany's campaign to expand her markets in the Balkans, especially so far as the plan concerns Rumania and Yugoslavia. The Berliner Tageblatt considers that 'new forces seem to be at work.' "
