GUIDES' BIRTHDAY PARTY (Herald Correspondent.) On Friday evening the Patutahi Hall was the scene of a very happy gathering, the occasion being the birthday of the Patutahi Guides. To celebrate the event Guides from other districts had been invited and the First Gisborne, .Second Gisborne, and Afangapapa, and Manutuke companies were the guests of the Patutahi Guides. Mrs. .1. MacDonahi; district commissioner, gave ;i short talk to the cliiides upon happiness, after which llu-.y played games until the following budges wen presented:—Tenderfoot, —Joyce .lories and Peggy Wadded. Second class. —Muriel Atkins. Laundress.—Margaret R'obb. Service Stars. —Jean Monteith, Eileen Ritchie, Joy Bryson, .Muriel Atkins, Margaret I,'o'bb, and Joan Knight. Betty Dickinson llew up from the Brownies ;o the Guides.

After the badges had been given out, tin adjournment was made for supper, there being a wonderful array of good things. The two long fables were decorted with tall vases of Iceland poppies and spring flowers, and a beautiful birthday cake, made by Mrs Wells, wtts the centre of attraction. Phe cake was prettily iced and eight landlcs denoted the Guides' age. After full justice had been done to ill the good things provided, Mrs. J. Mae Donald called upon Peggy Waddell to light the candles, and Joyce Jones and Peggy Waddell, with one good blow, blew- them out. Peggy YYaddel and Joyce Jones also cut the cake. Before handing the cake round, Mrs. MacDonald said how sorry Mrs. L. Balfour and Mrs. Blackburn were that they were unable to bo present, and she' conveyed their good wishes to (ho Guides.' She also referred to the absence of Mrs. E. P. Kenner and Mrs. Speight, who were tumble to attend owing to illness. Those present were: —Mrs. Mae Donald, district commissioner; .Mrs. B. Andrew, Gisborne district commissioner; Miss Lysnar, Bangor captain; Mrs. Andrews, captain First Gisborne Company; Miss Y. Penner, acting captain, Patutahi; Miss O'llallcran, captain, Second Gisborne Company; Miss Woodhcad, captain, Mangapapa; Miss M. McKinlcy, lieutenant, First Gisborne; Miss Taylor, captain, Mtiriwai; Mi«s Humphries, lieutenant, Second Gisborne; Miss D. McKinley, acting Brown Owl, Te. Hapara; Patutahi committee, Mrs. s. C. Wells, Mrs. W. J. A'!kins, Mrs. P. Habgood, and Mrs. J. Pobb; visitors, Mrs. 11. Ritchie, Mrs. Kane, Mrs. Dickenson, Mrs. L. Knight, and Miss Bilham.
