INQUEST OPENED
DEAD MAORI ALL BLACK SELECTOR'S EVIDENCE (Per Press Association.) PAI.MERFTON N.. last night.. An inquest into the circumstances surrounding the death of the .Maori A I Black. Bernard Edward Rogers, winch occurred in Palmerston North on Thursday, following a fall on the previous night, was opened before Mr. A. J. Graham, coroner, to-day. William Teihoka Pa rata, fanner, \\ aitnti, Otago, and a selector of the Maori representatives, gave evidence ol identification, lie last saw ttogew alive on Wednesdav evening about 8 0 clock. He was ill his usmal state of' health, but was in a semi-drunken condition, tins was upstairs in the Cafe De Paris Hotel. "] was surprised to see bun m that condition."• added the witness, "because I did not know that he drank. .1 101 l the hotel, and about an hour later was notified of an accident at the hotel involving one of the players. I. immediately returned to the hotel, but by this time the injured man bad 'been taken, to hospital. I was informed of what had taken place. 1 witnessed the football match, during the afternoon, and -< licensed receive,! no injury during Ihe match so far as 1 know."
