LEAD TO WHOLE WORLD
EMPIRE CONGRESS AIM OF UNANIMITY (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. "If success is made and unanimity arrived at on subjects exercising the minds of the people to-day, such as immigration and shipping, this will be a conference that will never be forgotten," said Sir Thomas Wilford, speaking of the coming triennial Congress of the Chambers of Commerce of the British Empire, to be held in Wellington next week. "You may think the results, may be somewhat futile," Sir Thomas added, "but Great Britain is looking on with the greatest interest. New Zealand will be placed, as Ottawa was, on the map for those who write the history of the British Empire in time to come. Every delegate is going! to do his best to show the world unanimity upon important matters of interest to us all, so that the world at large can realise that we look upon the Empire, not merely as a commonwealth of nations, but, as n sacred trust committed to our care with, the hope thai we may arrive at some understanding that may be a direction and lead U> the whole world."
