HOURS OF WORK AND PAY
FREEZING INDUSTRY SUBJECTS FOR COURT (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. A partial agreement was reached between a committee of the North and South Island Freezing and Casings Companies' Association and representatives of the Wellington District Freezing Workers' Union, and 1 the Otago and Southland and District Union on Thursday. Mr. J. A. Milburn represented the Otago and Southland union and Messrs. A. MeLeod, A. Baker, and J. Blair the Wellington union. The matters in dispute were discussed seriatim, and a number of claiuses were agreed to. No agreement was reached in the matter of hours of work and the hourly rates of pay, the employers refusing to agree to any increase in the rates of pay in excess of the 1931 award rates, and it was agreed to refer these questions to the court) for settlement.
The proceedings were conducted in a friendly manner throughout.
