BARTLETT'S NEWS

BENEFIT DANCE

(Herald Correspondent.)

Despite the inclement weather, a large crowd of dancers filled the Y.M.C.A. Hall, Bartlett's, last night and enjoyed to the full the danco arranged by a committee, with representatives of the Workers' Union from Bartlett's. camp, No. 1 camp and No. 2 camp, in conjunction with the Y.M.C.A. committee, for the benefit of the widow of the late Mr. Wesche. Messrs. J. French and E. Borst were the M.C.s. The camp orchestra, with Mr. A. Pilkington, of the Y.M.C.A., Gis-borne, at the piano, played the dance music and did very well for their first appearance.

Approximately £25 was received in the .sale of tickets, door-taking and donations. The supper was provided by the ladies, the orchestra gave their services free, and the Y.M.C.A. made no charge for the hall.

During the evening several items were given. Mr. P. Berney danced a sailors' hornpipe, Mr. P. McConeh a fancy dance, and .Mr. J. Rhodes an Irish jig. Mr. Barko played a violin solo, and Mr. J. Matangi sang a yodelling song. After sup|er Mr. Andrew Taipeha played extras.

A number of cakes were sold at auction by Mr. J. French. Mr. Hunt, the dance committee's secretary, thanked heartily all those, who had helped to make the evening such a success.
