Stiffened Veils
CTIFFENED veils are a feature ol the spring millinery. They may not extend to the brim of a hat, bin they are there, nevertheless, and make a background for the posies of flowers that cluster tit the base of the crown.
As well as the more spectacular types ,of flowers that adorn spring millinery tiny daisies in red and blue a> well as white, lilac, and mauve, edelweiss, and while and purple violets add their quota to the charm of a floral season.
Feathers not only fill their accustomed place aud form lovely flowers, bill are also met in bows and bands. A smart bow of lacquer red may adorn one of the new types of tam-o'-shanter, which are made from pliable straws of the softest type, and have thick tyre edges. Swathed Chiffon
Where flowers are not employed, swathes of chiffon are frequently used. Fuchsia colours are favoured, particularly for this type of trimming, and these are plaited together,* with perhaps green. The ends hang through the brim of the hat, and look well when brightening a Breton sailor. A straw" which is not thick, but i> coarser in weave than the majority, is the new Wcnchow, light, and pliable, but with more body than some of the other straws. Paillason is a rough straw that is generally combined in two colours for contrast. Sometimes three may be employed, such as two shades of fuchsia and navy, with the trimming of navy grosgrain ribbon.
