Great Mileage Hope Of New Carburettor
n'ETAItiS of the rogue carburettor, 1 of which it is claimed thai if' may give i!(IO miles to the gallon, are contained in recent Canadian newspapers.
The Poguo carburettor has no orthodox jets. There are two spray nozzles placed beneath the primary expansion chamber, but they differ from the ordinary carburettor jet. In following the, sequence _of operation one starts at the fuel line. The petrol is drawn from this line by a fuel pump and is forced through spray jets. Any liquid petrol is drained back through to a point in the line, beyond the fuel pump. This provents any liquid petrol being taken to the engine. Nothing but vapour can enter the primary chamber.
i The vapour enters the primary cxpansion chamber, where it encounters a series of baffles, ,or scrolls. These .scrolls form a continuous spiral from the outer to the inner passage of the chamber. In its passage around the baffles the vapour is given ample time to expand to a great extent. A small vacuum-operated diaphragm pump produces a suction on the inner passage of the primary expansion chamber and draws the vapour through I into the centre passage of the secondary expansion chamber. This chamber lis* constructed identically to the primary. Should a pressure arise in the secondary chamber above the determined force, about three-quarters of an ounce, it is automatically reI leased through a relief valve which 1 permits it to go back into the line beyond the pump. I The vapour then makes a circuit of ! the secondary chamber and passes out i to the venturi tube through an opening. A choke is fitted, but it is seldom used. } Adjustment is secured by linking Iho ' throttle with a butterfly valve. A turnbuckle arrangement, calibrated to I a fine degree, makes it possible to obtain a very close adjustment, thus permitting the minimum of vapour to ■ escape into the centuri tube. j .The vapour is then caught by the incoming draft of air down the I venturi lube, where it is carried into
the engine. The present model of the Pogue carburettor is fairly large, about -Oin. square, but manufacturing refinements will cut this down to a much smaller size. The idea is to give the petrol ample time to expand.
Take the close that suits you best, Sure relief for throat and chest; Take it oh "directions" say. That is, perhaps, the wisest, way. Take it "neat" or steaming- hot, .Ttlst to suit the cold you've got; Toko the doso that soothes to "slay"— Woods' Great: Peppermint Cure alvvay.
