Mr. H. Rochfort, headmaster of the Motueka High School, has been appointed principal of the Wanganui Intermediate School.

In the House of Representatives yesterday, Mr. Tan Henare was granted seven days’ leave of absence on account of illness.

Mr. A. 11. Gibson, a member of the Christchurch Magistrate’s Court staff, has received notice of his transfer to W’airoa, Hawke’s Bay, as clerk of the. court ,nnd official assignee. Captain Robert Don Olliver, second naval* member, has been appointed honorary naval aide-de-camp on the staff of the Governor-General, Viscount Galway.—P. A. Mrs. James Hawkins, New Plymouth, has received advice that her son, FlightLieutenant J. A. L. Hawkins's, has been posted to Middle- East Africa as flight commander of the 35th squadron. Mr. C. -M. Tickner, Hawera, after 6£ years as auctioneer for Messrs. Newton King, Limited, has resigned to take up a similar position with Messrs. Williams and Kettle, Limited. He will take up residence in Dannevirke. Mr. Alan Thomas, who was formerly manager of the Gisborne branch of the Vacuum Oil Company, and some time ago was transferred to Palmerston North, has been appointed sales manager for the company in Dunedin. The Poverty Bay Electric Power Board to-day received advice from Mr. R. P. Baigent, the newly-appointed secretarymanager, that he would take up his duties on October 19. Mr. Baigent has been for some years secretary to the South Taranaki Power Board.

An engagement is announced between Keith Chester, second son of Mi's. F. E. Everett and the late Mr. F. E. Everett, Wanganui, and Mona, youngest daughter of Mr. H. lyckl and the late Mrs. H. Kidd, Timnru. Mr. Everett arrived hack in Gisborne last, evening after visiting Timnru and Wanganui. Owing to continued ill-health, Mr. V. F. B. Rogers, Dannevirke manager of the National Bank of New Zealand, Limited, for the past- 13J,- years, has. found it necessary to retire from the hank’s service. Mr. Rogers joined the bank in 1903 at Wellington and left the city in 1916 to become accountant at the Palmerston North branch. After acting as relieving manager at Dannevirke and Masterton in 1922, he was appointed manager of the Dannevirke branch in June, 1923.
