GOVERNMENT’S PROPOSALS DOMINION BEAUTY SPOTS Evidence of I lie Government’s proposals for the extension of its activities in connection with the encouragement of tourist traffic was .revealed in letters received at Te Arolia from the manager of the- Department of Tourist and Publicity, in which it was intimated that the Government had taken over the business of Film Craft. Limited, and now proposed to co-operate with local authorities, in the production of scenic films. Under the suggested .scheme the department’s photographers would visit local districts and, take moving pictures. Suitable sound effects ami dialogue later would be added and the films would be shown throughout New Zealand theatres. Additional copies would be exhibited oii ships travelling to New Zealand and others would he dispatched to numerous Overseas organisations in England, Australia, Canada and America. Smallersized copies, would he available foy distribution through schools, universities, and travel organisations while “stills’ would be available for reproduction as picture postcards. The cost of oitch film and copies, was estimated al £IBO. which it was suggested should be shared equally between the department and the locality concerned.
