Total for month to date .. ’ UI Average for September .. **.oUin THE WEATHER To-day’s North Island Report Overcast conditions and light, rain were reported this morning at Gisborne and East Cape, but bliio skies prevailed elsewhere in the North Island. .Model - ate to fresh southerly bree/.nsi were reported at Napier and further north, and moderate north-westerlies to the south. The barometer bad continued to fall steadily. Temperatures at 9 <> clock were: Auckland 68 degrees, Tauranga, East. Cape, Napier, and Wellington 69. Onotiki 60, and Gisborne 56. Rough seas were reported at Cape Campbell and East Cape; elsewhere moderate or smooth. Last Night’s Forecast A shallow cyclone is moving eastwards past the northern extremity ot the Dominion. while a westerly depression is advancing across the Tasman Sea. An anticyclone now covers the whole of Australia, the centre being over the middle portion ot tlie- (.Jrosit Austrnlinu .Bight. Winds moderate to strong, but dm easing easterly to raorth-easterly in the Auckland province, elsewhere northerly to north-westerly prevailing. bight, to moderate mainly at lirst. but Ireshomiig, backing to southerly to-night in the Far south, and southerlies extending over most of the Dominion within the next 24 to 36 hours. Seas rough north ot Cape Palliser; elsewhere moderate but rising south of Cape Egmont. and in the Cook and Foveaux Straits areas. In the eastern Tasm.au Sea, moderate southerly wind in the far northern portion; elsewhere moderate to tresli northerly to north-Westerly, but southerlies becoming general during to-morrow, and wind and sen increasing. Weather dub and misty, with scattered rain in the northern and north-eastern portions of the Xoith Island. Vint soon improving temporarily; elsewhere fine at first, but unsettled conditions; and rain developing in the western and southern parts ol the South Island, and extending shortly over most ot the Dominion. Temperatures mild, but rt cool change setting in during to-mor-row. Midday Forecast. General inference.—A shallow cyclonic depression is located north-cast of East Cape and is moving away eastward, while a. moderate westerly depression is crossing the South' Island. An anticyclone. is located over Australia and is advancing on to the Tasman Sea. Forecast. —Moderate to strong southerly winds, decreasing, and turning to novtherlics for a. brief interval. Weather Cool and changeable, with scattered passing showers. Seas moderate to rather rough.
