FRANCE UNSETTLED
TOURISTS IMPRESSED SYDNEY, Sept. IG. Mr. A. J. Detombes, n French woolbuyer, who returned to Sydney yesterday by the Pxurakooln, after six months abroad, said that, having seen other countries, lie thought Australia was the most prosperous country in the world. . Conditions were very unsettled m France since the working people had occupied the factories, added Mr. Detombes. They had been granted increases in wages, but the cost of ‘living had risen. Similar views were expressed by Mr. .T. C.Marduel, a. representative of Bir.t and Company, Limited, Sydney, who also arrived by the Purrakoola. Mr. Marduel said: “Conditions in France might be worse, but I do not think so. The cost of living is too high. The increase in wages, following the strikes, has caused the cost of living to go up.”
