SLANDER ACTION

VERDICT FOR CONSTABLE

SYDNEY, Sept. 17.

A jury in the Supreme Court yesterday awarded a verdict for £l5O to John Isaac Gordon Bonnette, a constable of police, in- his action against Woolworths, Limited, retailers, to recover damages for slander and assault. Bennette's case was that statements were, made in the Oxford street shop "ttf Woolworths, Limited, by several employees whieh meant that lie was a thief. The jury found in favour of Bonnette on each of the live counts of slander, but found for Woolworths, Limited, on the count of assault, under which Bonncfcte claimed that be -had been pushed away from a counter.

Mr. Justice Street granted a stay of proceedings.
