MAN WHO SHOT SISTER

Henry .Smith, the 19-ycar-old soldier, of Fleet Fen, Lincolnshire, sentenced to death at Lincoln Assizes for the murder of his sister, lias been reprieved. The sentence is commuted to imprisonment for life.
His execution had been fixed for next Wednesday al. Lincoln I’iisoii. At his trial the jury made a strong recommendation for merev.
Smith, a private in the Northamptonshire Regiment, was convicted of shooting his sister, Dorothy Smith, 24, on the roadside- at Fleet Fen, near Spalding, as she was cycling to chapel with her fiance. It was alleged that he afterwards fired at his father, who was sitting in his house, and inflicted severe wounds.
He pleaded not guilty and stated that he never intended to do any harm to his sister. He though lie would frighten -her.
