"A professional imposter," was the police description, of Harry Walker Reid, aged 4'A. who was sentenced m the court, this morning to gaol for three months with hard labour tor attempted fraud.

The chief detective told the court that Reid, while an inmate of the Palclutha Hospital, whore. ineidemTfily he left without paying, posed as the holder of the Victoria' Cross and promised the donation of a wireless wt, to the hospital in appreciation of the tine treatment he had received. The accused attempted to secure goods from a. drapery firm bv false pretences, posmg as a wealthy farmer. When he called back at the shop, he saw a detective who had arrested him last year and left hurriedly. , The chief detective suggested that the shock Reid received in the encounter might have been the cause of his contracting stomach trouble and reining to the hospital. He had nine previous convictions. _ The magistrate said mat the accused was incorrigible.
