SAFETY ON HIGHWAYS

MATTER OF CONTROL TALK BY MINISTER DOMINION COUNCIL MEETS (Per Pross Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The New Zealand Road Safety Council appointed by the Minister of Transport, the Hon. P. Semple, hold its inaugural meeting to-day. After a preliminary discussion, with the Minister as chairman, the council went into icommittee to discuss proposals for greater road safety as proposed in the new motor regulations and the draft of the enforcement bill, which was available for consideration. Mr. Laurenson, of the Transport Department, -was elected as deputychairman, and a motion was carried thanking the Minister for the preparatory work he hud clone for road safety. The Minister said that a conference in August had had a fine psychological effect, and that, proved thai when the council got, to work and started an educational campaign, much could be done to prevent accidents. It was only a question of proper control, and that would 'be only possible if Kew Zealand had an educated motoring and pedestrian population. A motion of thanks was accorded Mr. Semple for his address, and every indication was given of a concerted effort by everyone to achieve the ends in view.
