TRADE EDUCATION
TECHNICAL COLLEGES NEW SYSTEM SUGGESTED (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. A new system for training young people lor industry to replace or supplement apprenticeship as formerly organised was recommended by the Technical Education Association at the annual conference which was continued in Wellington to-day. The executive yesterday drafted remits arising out. of suggestions made that day by the Minister of Education, the Hon'. Peter Fraser. To-day. it was. decided, "That the organisation of technical colleges is suitable for the development of trade education on a full-time trade basis, analogous to apprenticesnip. but With adequate provision for continued education on a broad basis. "To enable any scheme of instruction to operate successfully, it will be necessary to alter the present industrial system to enable recognition of such training by industrial associations and the acceptance of accredited students by the trades. Control of instruction should be completely in the hands of the educational authorities, but- the -Ministry of Labour should assist by the provision of modern equipment and additional material."
