AUSTRALIAN CONTESTS AMATEUH ANff PROFESSIONAL MELBOURNE, Sept, 22. Australia's leading golfers participated in amateur and professional inter-State match contests to-day on. the metropolitan course in wet and windy weather. In the amateur matches, Victoria defeated South Australia by seven matches to nil. H. L. Williams beat R, Sawers (South Australian champion), 2 and 1. New* South Wales defeated Queensland bv four matches to three. Ferrier had a' close- call against J. Ratelifte, whom ne beat one up. The amateurs of Victoria defeated New South Wales, by six matches to one. H. Williams convincingly beat J. Ferrier by 4 and 2. In the professional contests, New boutn Wales defeated South Australia by fourmatches to' one. New South Wales defeated Victoria by three matches to two.
