SOCIAL WORKER
LATE MRS. HORNIBROOK SERVICE FOR SOLDIERS A recent cable message from Rarotonga announced, the death of Mrs. E. Hornibrook, who was better known as Miss Ettie Rout. Mrs. Hornibrook, who before her marriage was a prominent social worker in Christchurch, was also a woman of considerable literary gifts, and wrote for many newspapers throughout New Zealand. She married Mr. F. A. Hornibrook, who was an instructor of physical culture in Christchurch, and during the Great War she did important tonal service work in connection with the New Zealand Expeditionary-Force in England. Her work was criticised in various quarters but finally it was recognised by the New Zealand Army authorities. Her husband co-operated with her in the work on behalf of the soldiers. Mr. and Mrs. Hornibrook lived in Dublin and in London at different times after the war, and Mrs. Hornibrook wrote a good, deal on social questions. Her husband recently published a book in which many of his wife's activities were described.
Mrs. Hornibrook possessed great energy, and her organising ability and intellectual gifts were much above the ordinary. She and her husband travelled widely in Europe and elsewhere in recent years.
