BITUMEN TO CEMETERY
PROPOSAL MAY FAIL NO SUBSIDY, AVAILABLE The proposal to bituminisc the road from the borough, boundary to the Taruheru cemetery may not eventuate this year, because of the inability of the Cook County Council to secure a Government subsidy. - This was pointed out to (ho Gisborne Borough Council by the works committee last, night, when it was suggested that if further representations to the Government failed, the Borough. Comical, also should defer bituminising the short section of the. road within, the borough. Tho works, committee's report read : "Atkinson street.—The Cook County Council's engineer advises that, there is every possibility of his council not undertaking the sealing of Hapara road, between the borough boundary and the Taruheru cemetery this season, as the Government so fair has not made provision for subsidy on this work. The committee authorised the deputy-Mayor and town clerk to interview the county officials in regard to this matter, and also to communicate, with the Mayor requesting him to interview the Minister of Public Works, and. endeavour to have
a, sum placed on the estimates for subsidising this work. Failing the county being unable to carry out, the sealing of Hapara road this season, the committee recommends the council to divert its proposed expenditure on Atkinson street to some other street, nearer town." The report was adopted.
